Nimbus

Nimbus is a cloud development environment platform designed for developer teams to code and manage cloud VMs configured for their projects. Unlike repo-first container-based solutions, Nimbus offers machine-first environments using dedicated AWS EC2 virtual machines, providing flexibility, power (up to 8 vCPUs and 32 GB RAM), and consistency across diverse IDEs such as VS Code and JetBrains. It addresses compatibility issues across hardware and OS variations, scaling challenges, and limited local machine power by enabling developers to work from any device with code and environments running entirely in the cloud. Nimbus supports persistent and ephemeral VMs, environment templating, snapshotting, and integrates with Git and OAuth for credential management. Use cases include reducing onboarding time, improving environment reliability, and enabling remote work on more powerful machines. Nimbus targets development teams, consultants, and organizations seeking consistent, scalable, and flexible cloud dev environments. Self-hosting capabilities and prebuild features are in progress.
